After all of the sweat, blood, tears, countless study hours, and many sleepless nights...

we finally graduated!!

It was such a wonderful day!

Our families were able to take the day off to come to both

ceremonies for Dan and I.

They have given us so much love and support throughout

our college years.

We couldn't have done it without them,

so thank you!!

WE ARE MOVING!!!

Yes, we will be boxing up the apartment and haulin' our stuff to good ol' Farmington!!

Dan and I were fortunate enough to build a brand new house there. We are so excited!

We weren't planning on moving until we graduated, but the opportunity presented itself to us, and we took it! Come Spring Break, we will be settled in our new home.

We can hardly wait!

WHEN WE GRADUATE!!

That's right! Only one more semester to go until Dan and I both graduate from the U! I am so excited! I have been waiting for this day to come for quite some time now. It has been a long journey, but the end is in sight. Plus, I get to share it with my sweet husband. These next few months are going to be busy since both of us are working full time and taking classes, but it will be worth it in the end! We are excited to become the graduating class of 2010!

Winter Wonderland

Well this is my first official post of 2010, and I am excited for the new year! It's a fresh start and a new chapter to our lives. We had a wonderful Christmas with our families. Dan's parents visited us Christmas morning and we had Christmas dinner with my family. We decided to celebrate New Year's up in Kamas. On New Year's Eve, Dan, his dad Paul, and I took a snowmobile ride up Hoyts Peak. It was absolutely gorgeous! The sun was shining and there was a fresh blanket of powder covering the mountains. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect day for snowmobiling. It was a great kick off to a new year!

Like I said, it was absolutely beautiful, a complete Winter Wonderland.

If you can't tell, that's me. I feel so miniature and weak when riding these heavy sleds, but they are fun. It's a good upper body workout.

What's happenin' with the Hirst's

As you can see, I am not doing a very good job at updating our blog. We have been extremely busy the past few weeks, so I will fill you in on what's been going on in our lives lately.

Our last home game as members of the MUSS

It was a bittersweet feeling to realize it was our last football game as a U of U students. We had a blast attending all of the games this season. I am definitely going to miss the rowdy members of the MUSS, rushing the field, singing "Utah Man am I," dancing with the Crazy Lady, the 3rd down jump, cheering the Utes on after a touchdown, and screaming until I lose my voice. Oh how we love the football games! Even though we can't be in the MUSS, we are looking forward to next season. After all, we are still die hard Utah fans, no matter what!

Studying for finals

When the semester is drawing to an end, it can only mean that finals are right around the corner. I had a difficult time keeping myself motivated enough to study. Dan had to take the Fundamentals of Engineering exam this past fall. Students majoring in Mechanical Engineering are required to pass the exam before they graduate. It's a brutal eight hour long test, but Dan passed it! He is one step closer to becoming an Engineer! We have one more semester to go, then we both graduate! Happy day!

We spent Thanksgiving with my family this year. I was so excited to see this movie. We absolutely loved it! Of course, it will never come close to my all-time favorite Christmas movie, "The Grinch," also played by Jim Carrey. The movie was pretty intense, and it followed the book by Charles Dickens word for word. It's a great holiday show!

Dan and I attended the Festival of Trees with our good friends, the Leaver's. Neither of us had been there before, and we were amazed at how many trees there were. Each was decorated with such detail. We joked about buying one of the Christmas trees at the auction when we are rich enough. Hopefully one day we can :-).

The Christmas lights at Temple Square is always a holiday favorite. We went with my family last week and had a great time. Afterwards we got hot chocolate at 7 Eleven. They have the best hot chocolate ever!

Jon Schmidt Christmas Concert

We absolutely love Jon Schmidt! We attended his Christmas concert at Kingsbury Hall for the 3rd year in a row. It keeps getting better and better. He is extremely talented, plus he went to the same high school as me (little plug in for Highland High). My favorite song of his is "Pachelbel's Canon Meets U2." He has a new song out called "Love Story Meets Viva La Vida." It's a mix of Taylor Swift's "Love Story," and Coldplay's "Viva La Vida." If you haven't heard it, you can find the music video on YouTube. It's really cool. We are looking forward to his concert next year.

On Halloween night, Dan and I went to the Utah Blackout game with his brother Jim. The MUSS was filled with freaky costumes and crazy masks. Dan wore his creepy skeleton mask for fun. It was a great football game and an unforgettable Halloween!

Dan really is my Utah Man!

Here we are as creepy, scary, dead Utah Fans! We definitely got lots of stares at the party. No one knew who we were. It was kinda fun to be in disguise. Our masks did scare some little kids though, they wouldn't come near us.

At our ward Halloween party, my friend Adrienne and her husband were dice. It was so creative! Loved it!

We are a crazy bunch! There is never a dull moment with these two lovely ladies.

False Hopes

I absolutely love the fall!! It's such a fun season! I love the warm sweaters, football games, pumpkin carving, leaves changing colors, the crisp cool air, the smell of hot apple cider, pumpkin chocolate chip cookies, costumes, decorations, trick-or-treaters, and yummy treats! Whenever this wonderful season approaches, I always think of Linus from the Peanuts Gang. It always bothered me that he spent every Halloween night waiting for the Great Pumpkin instead of trick-or-treating, and yet the Great Pumpkin never came. His friends always criticized him for believing in that sort of stuff, but Linus never gave up hope. He remained optimistic despite all odds. He always knew the Great Pumpkin was going to bring candy and toys for all the little children. Some may say Linus had unrealistic expectations. But I always had a small kindle of hope that the Great Pumpkin was going to come just for him. Linus is my favorite character in the Peanuts Gang because he always remained positive and looked on the bright side of things. During the fall season I try to be like Linus, because winter is right around the corner...and I am not looking forward to bitter cold months ahead!

What would autumn be like if there was no football?? Pretty boring if you ask me! If you come over to our apartment, I guarantee you we have a football game on TV. Dan and I love going to the Utah football games. This is our last year in the Mighty Utah Student Section (tear), so we are living it up this season! Of course, no football game would be complete without a tailgate party. We are always at the Muss tailgating party as soon as it starts! You could call us die hard Utah fans, but honestly, we just like getting the free food, haha. Our seats are amazing! We are on the 12th row right next to the families of the football players. They always sit down, so we have a clear view of the new and improved football field. Our entire lives are consumed of football during the fall season, but it makes life interesting. I know more about the game of football than I ever have in my entire life, all thanks to Dan :-). All I can say is, I am stoked about the blackout game on Halloween night! It's going to be awesome!! It all began on a bright and sunny Saturday afternoon. It was our last day of freedom before school started. Dan's brother Matt took us out on his boat at Pineview with his 3 boys, Dan's brother Jim, his wife Angela and their 2 kids. Matt brought a huge 3-man tube for us to ride before we went wakeboarding. It was my first ride of the day out on the water. I climbed on the tube all excited and ready to go! With me was my nephew Andrew and Matt's neighbor. It was really crowded on the lake. There were boats everywhere and we hit every single wake! We were flying and bouncing all over the place! It was so much fun, I could not stop laughing! Before I knew it, we hit a wake sending all of us high in the air as the tube flipped over. We all crashed into the water. My nephew was crying so I grabbed him and started swimming to the boat. My head was throbbing, but didn't think much of it. As we got closer to the boat, everyone was focused on me. They all told me I was bleeding. Immediately I thought of the worse case scenario that my ear had ripped off. I climbed onto the boat as Dan examined my head. That huge crash had caused my ear to split open, right along the inside crease. It was still bleeding, so they wrapped some ice in a towel to stop it. My ear didn't hurt much, it felt like someone had clobbered me on the side of my head. Soon, my body started going into shock. I could feel myself getting really light-headed and very tired. My face was turning pale and I thought I was going to pass out. But everyone took good care of me. They gave me some lemonade to get some sugar into my body. I laid down in the boat with my feet up so the blood would rush back into my head. Dan was a wonderful husband and sat next to me never leaving my side, making sure I was alright. After a few minutes, I got back up and felt much better. Luckily, it wasn't too serious of an injury to stop the boating trip, so everyone still got to go wakeboarding. Dan was able to go out on the water as I took pictures. For his second time wakeboarding, he did an awesome job!! My 7 and 9 year-old nephews were able to get up on the wake board! The day was more chaotic than we expected, but it definitely ended our summer with a bang!!

Hirst Pineview Trip

Ok, so I am really behind on my blog. Now it's time to update when I have the chance. This past month the Hirst family spent a weekend up at Pineview Reservoir for a boating trip. It was too cold to go out on the water, so we went to Snowbasin and rode the gondola up to the top of the mountain. It was freezing!! It felt like it was going to snow! But we had a great time as we hiked up a beautiful trail along the ski slopes. Later that night, we all went to the Jon Schmidt concert at Wolf Mountain. Again, it was was freezing cold! The concert was fabulous! It was a wonderful trip with the Hirst family!

One Year Anniversary!!!

Yesterday, July 31, 2009, was our one year anniversary!! I can't believe how fast time flies!! It seems like our wedding was just a few weeks ago. It has been one incredible year with one amazing guy! Dan is my best friend, my better half, and the love of my life! He means the world to me, and I love him so much. We have had many good times together, and we can't wait for the many years to come!

Over the 24th of July weekend, my family had our Lovin Reunion! My grandparents, aunts & uncles, and cousins all drove up here to Utah to have some fun. On the 24th of July, my Dad, Lindsay, Paige, Ethan, Aunt Julie, Uncle Randy, Uncle Darren, and cousins Natalie and Blake, and I ran the Deseret News 5k! It was such an adrenaline rush running along the parade route with tons of people cheering for you (or for the 5 year old boy running next to me). Dan was helping his brothers install a sprinkler system that morning. He is always willing to lend a hand, he is such a trooper. Later that night, Dan and I went over to my parents' house to light fireworks. My Dad hung a sheet up in the backyard to project a movie to make our own little theatre. We watched "Forever Strong" about Highland High School's Rugby team. Being an alumni of Highland High, it was pretty cool to see a film about one of our sports teams. It was a great weekend, and I am so happy we got to spend time with the good ol' Lovin Clan!

Harry Potter Date Night

Last week, Dan and I went and saw the new Harry Potter movie opening night!! Dan was able to get tickets to a private screening from attending a computer software seminar. He knew I had been looking forward to this movie for months, and he was so sweet to take time off work to go to the seminar so we could see it. He is such a good husband! At the theatre, there was a huge Harry Potter costume contest. There were tons of people dressed up as witches and wizards doing magic tricks and talking in British accents, it was awesome! And the movie...amazing!! Absolutely loved it! Can't wait for the next two movies!! (Yes, I am a huge Harry Potter fan). Thanks Dan for a great night, you are the best husband ever!

Last Thursday, my sweet husband Dan received a $1500 scholarship from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Utah! Dan is extremely dedicated and a very hard worker. It was wonderful to see how all of his efforts paid off. The American Council presented him with his scholarship at their annual banquet at the Grand America hotel. Dan's parents and his brothers Matt and Jeff were there too. The food was delicious, and they had a fantastic guest speaker! It was Jim Boylen, the head coach of the men's basketball team at the University of Utah. Dan was presented with a huge check, just like the ones you see on TV when people win millions of dollars. It was fake of course, but it was still pretty cool. He was given the real check later. It was a fabulous night! Dan is very intelligent and can accomplish anything he sets his mind to. I am so proud of him! Love ya babe!

So my sisters and I decided we were sick and tired of this rainy weather, so we took a girls' trip down to St. George one weekend to have some fun in the sun!! It was a great get-away, I am so glad I got to spend some good quality time with my sisters Lindsay and Paige. We did all the fantastic things you can do in St. George! We laid out by the pool, went swimming, did some shopping at the outlets, visited the St. George temple, ate at the yummy Pizza Factory and the one and only In'n'Out Burger, and of course had a grand ol' time at Fiesta Fun!! (It's like Boondocks, but a little bit more ghetto, plus I think that was the highlight of the trip!) When my sisters and I are together, we are little crazy sometimes. The pictures are living proof, but hey we know how to have fun :-).

Yesterday, Dan and I got to see a private showing of the new Disney/Pixar movie, "UP" and we both loved it!! Dan's brother Jim was given tickets through a mortgage company and had two extra, so we got to see it with him and his adorable son Devin. Its such a good family film, we were laughing the entire time. The Disney/Pixar movies are always so creative and clever. Everyone should go and see it, I promise you will love it! People of all ages will enjoy the movie. Can't wait to see it again! Thanks Jim!

This past month we have had so much fun with the Hirst family. We all got together and met at the Kangaroo Zoo in Bountiful. It's a fun house full of inflatable slides and obstacles courses for kids. Our nieces and nephews LOVED it! Dan and I definitely had a workout running around and climbing the slides with them. We were both completely exhausted afterwards, but it was a blast. It made me wish I was a kid again so I could have as much energy as our nieces and nephews did. On Mother's Day, Dan and I went up to Kamas to visit his parents. His Dad let us try out his new monster of a four wheeler. So we tested his sweet ride around their house and up the canyon. There was no windshield on the fourwheeler, so I got a good mouthful of bugs and flies in my hair, but it was worth it! We just love going up to Kamas, it's our little get-away! Thanks for having us come Paul and Bonnie!

It's finally here...SUMMER!!

Summer is finally here!!! Praise the day! Dan and I finished our finals this past week, and we are definitely looking forward to having more freetime without any homework to worry about. Only one more year to go and we will both graduate next spring! Dan has worked so hard this past year, I am so proud of him. Now we are both enjoying our summer break. Summer is my absolute favorite season!! Not only did we meet and get married in the summer, but our birthdays are during this wonderful time of year as well. Summer is the greatest because of all the fun things you can do like barbeques, fireworks, picnics, night games, boating, water-skiing, wakeboarding, fourwheeling, swimming, drive-in movies, vacationing, being with friends and family, and the warm summer nights. You can bet Dan and I will be doing all of these things! Summertime automatically reminds me of my all-time favorite movie, "Sandlot" because it's about a group of boys causing all kinds of trouble during their summer vacation. It brings back many good childhood memories. Those of you who have seen it can appreciate its great one-liners. Plus it was filmed in my parents' neighborhood, really, I can show you Scotty Smalls' pink house. This classic picture is of Squints from the movie, it makes me wish summer lasted "FOR-E-VERRR"!!

Last Friday, my Mom took my three sisters and I to the musical "Wicked" for our birthday presents this year. It was AMAZING!! Loved it!! I get go excited just thinking about it! The songs have been stuck in my head ever since, it's great! For those of you who are going, you won't be disappointed, it's really incredible. Before the play started, we went out to dinner at a yummy Mexican restaurant called The Blue Iguana. My favorite part was the dessert. We had stuffed churros with cheese cake inside...delicious!! It was a great way to kick off the evening! It was so fun to have a girls' night out with my mom and sisters. Thanks for such a memorable night girlies! Thanks Mom for taking us! You are the best!!

Spring Fever

Seriously, when is it stop going to snow?? I know spring weather is unpredictable in Utah but come on! Sometimes I think the weather can't make up it's mind. One day it will be a wonderful 75 degrees, the next day back down to 30 with snow on the ground. It's ridiculous! You think after living in Utah for almost 15 years I would be used it by now, but no! So on rainy days like these I look at this picture of Hawaii and dream of warm, sunny, flip flop weather. Winter is over, the sun needs to come out and STAY out!

Dan's most favorite thing to do is to go snowmobiling. He absolutely loves winter! Usually when we go together, I sit behind him on his snowmobile. This time he thought I was ready to ride one all by myself! It was a blast, but it was so exhausting!! Anyone who tells you snowmobiling is easy is lying, it takes a ton of upper body strength (which I don't have). We went snowmobiling

up the canyon behind Dan's parents' house in Kamas. That day was absolutely beautiful!! The weather wasn't too cold and the sun was out. It was so peaceful and quiet up the mountain. It was our snowy heaven. My arms and back were sore afterwards, but the ride was so worth it!! We had so much fun! Here are some pics from a few pit stops along our way up the canyon.

This is the view behind us in the MUSS, pretty cool eh? The guy holding up his hands was completely wasted, but he was hilarious. He called Dan and I his "Football Buddies" who stuck it out to the end. He was a crack up!

Ok, here is my claim to fame. This is a pic of Jared the "Subway" guy before the game. He is the one that lost all of the weight by eating the 5 Dollar footlongs. Who knew he was a Ute fan?!

As you can see Dan and I are huge Utah fans! We went to every single Utah football game and tailgaiting party (hey, free food right?). Plus we have been to most of the basketball games. Dan is on the MUSS board, so he hooked us up with sweet football seats on the second row!! It's a great view from there, I am telling ya. Here we are at the most intense, nailbiting, aggressive, and thrilling game of the season against the school down south. Actually, it wasn't that nerve-racking since we creamed the Cougars, but needless to say we had fun watching the Utes dominate last year! Neither of us could talk afterwards since we were screaming so much.

Another great thing about the trip was having Dan's brother Jim and his wife Angela there watching the game with us. We love our Utes!

For those of you who don't know Dan, he is the BIGGEST Utah fan you will ever meet! He bleeds red through and through. While we were dating, Dan won a free trip to the Utah v. Michigan football game for the 2008 season. Little did we know it was going to be the first step to a perfect 13-0 season for the Utah football team. Last August, Dan and I flew to Michigan to watch them Utes, all expenses paid! The Big House Stadium was huge!!! It seated 100,000 fans! We were up on the top rows with the other Ute fans screaming our guts out!! Not only was this once-in-a-lifetime trip free, but we won!!! Go Utes!!

Dan and I went to Kauai for our honeymoon! For those of you who've never been I highly recommend it. It was so beautiful! It was my first trip to Hawaii and I am dying to go back! I wanted to post these pics because they make me so happy every time I see them. It was a complete paradise!

I couldn't have asked for a more perfect day! On that beautiful summer morning, I was married to the love of my life! Dan is such a wonderful husband! He's my prince charming, my knight in shining armor, my better half, and my best friend. I am so grateful to have him in my life! I love him so much! He's my man!

Hi, and welcome to our blog!! Let's be honest, I have had this blog since last August. But between school and work, I haven't had time to post anything until now. It's a lame excuse I know, but it's the sincere truth. It's Spring Break (finally) and I think it's time to update our blank blog for our viewers. Let me bring you all up to speed. Dan and I were married on July 31, 2008 and are loving life together! Dan and I are attending school at the U of U and are looking forward to graduating next spring (Hallelujah!). Life has flown by so fast, I can't believe we've been married for 7 1/2 months!! It's been crazy, but I have loved every minute of it! So there will be old pictures posted to let you know what Dan and I have been doing together. Enjoy!
